TIERNEY SUTTON & Christian Jacob

Jazz Coterie live music concert series presents acclaimed vocalist Tierney Sutton with her long-time pianist Christian Jacob at our Wisconsin pop-up jazz club.

9X Grammy Nominee!

Tierney Sutton has received 8 Grammy Nominations for “Best Jazz Vocal Album” as well as a 9th for musical arranging. Ms. Sutton’s 15 recordings as leader have addressed themes such as materialism and the pursuit of happiness as well as paying tribute to the music of Bill Evans, Frank Sinatra, Sting, and Joni Mitchell.

A serious jazz artist who takes the whole enterprise to another level.
— The New York Times

Tierney’s Joni Mitchell tribute album, “After Blue” featured NEA Jazz Master Hubert Laws as well as jazz vocal legend Al Jarreau. The album received wide acclaim and was Sutton’s breakout as a leader without her longtime Band. Her latest album, “Paris Sessions 2” released in 2022 features Serge Merlaud, Kevin Axt and Hubert Laws. The pandemic found Tierney deepening a collaboration with pianist Tamir Hendelman. This duo has an album in the works.

Her scatting boasts a clean airborne quality, and the lady can swing.
— Variety

In May 2016 Tierney was approached by legendary Director Clint Eastwood. The original score to his box-office smash, “Sully”, was created by Tierney Sutton Band pianist, Christian Jacob, The Tierney Sutton Band and Clint Eastwood. The end-title song “Flying Home” features music by Eastwood and lyrics by Tierney Sutton and JB Eckl. It is performed by Tierney Sutton and The Tierney Sutton Band.

Ms. Sutton is a pure jazz spirit who respects a song. Even when going out on an improvisatory limb, she never lets its essence slip away.
— The New York Times

Tierney has headlined in recent years at The Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center and Jazz At Lincoln Center. She can also be heard on film and television soundtracks including that of The Academy Award-nominated film “The Cooler” as well as on television commercials for such international brands as Coke and BMW among others.

When she is off the road, Tierney is in demand as both a producer and vocal educator. She taught for over a decade at USC’s Thornton School of Music and served for 5 years as Vocal Department Head at The Los Angeles College of Music in Pasadena, CA where she created a new curriculum for vocalists of all genres. Tierney has taught and mentored some of music’s finest new generation of singers including Gretchen Parlato and Sara Gazarek.

Time just scats on by when one is caught up in the wave of creativity that defines Tierney Sutton.

With a recording and touring history spanning over 20 years The Tierney Sutton Band, “TSB” has traveled a rare path. Comprised of Sutton and instrumental virtuosos Kevin Axt, Ray Brinker, Trey Henry and Christian Jacob, the band functions as a true collaborative (and legally incorporated) unit and makes all musical as well as business decisions as partners. In 2011 the TSB received a Grammy nomination for it’s collaborative arranging, the only collaborative team ever to receive that honor.
